Acura NSX

Though not an exotic automobile by any means, the Acura NSX was one of the few mid-engine cars on the market that could be driven like one. It truly wasn’t until the inception of Acura NSX that we had a sports car that could be driven by everyday people. It was the introduction of this car that taught us supercar performance did not need to come at a hefty price, which is why the NSX became such a historical monument in the automobile realm all those years ago.

A Swift History of the Acura NSX

The original NSX was introduced to the United States market under the Acura brand in 1991. The idea was to build a supercar that was both reliable and ergonomic so that they could be put on the streets for regular drivers. They also wanted a car that was lightweight, but could still cruise alongside exotic rides with ease. Essentially, Honda wanted it all, and they made it all without compromise.

Engineering the Acura NSX

The 2020 Acura NSX is the only supercar that is designed and manufactured in the United States. It features a hybrid, super handling all-wheel-drive system with an incredible 573 horsepower that is currently changing the supercar game. Some of the other high-quality characteristics of this car include the total airflow management, the supportive, cockpit-style seats, the interwoven wheels, and the carbon ceramic brakes.

A Timeline of the Acura NSX

  • First Generation Acura NSX (1990-2005)

The first generation Acura NSX hit the ground running with a mid-mounted 3.0L V-6 engine, sporting 270 horsepower. By 1996, Honda introduced the NSX-T, which came with a targa-style roof panel that was removable, as well as an optional four-speed automatic transmission. By 1997, the engine was increased to 3.2 liters to provide additional 20 horsepower.

By the early 2000s, some additional tweaks fixed the headlamps and restyled the valances in the front and rear. NSX production came to a halt in 2005 just after the JDM NSX-R GTs were built.

  • Second Generation Acura NSX (2016-Present)

The second generation was teased for quite a long time and was eventually released in 2016 with a 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine alongside a triple electric motor system. It utilized all-wheel-drive terrain and a nine-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission. The body is made with high-grade aluminum and steel to create the unique space frame.
