Just like a plate of caviar or a small diamond ring, the Buick Encore is a bite-sized piece of luxury for those who love Buick.
The Buick Encore rests right in the middle of luxury and economy classes alongside its competitors from Nissan and Lincoln. Does the baby Buick aim high enough to compete with luxury competitors like BMW and Lexus? Let’s find out.
A Quick History of the Buick Encore
The Buick Encore first debuted at the North American International Auto Show back in 2012 as a North American version of the Opel Mokka, which is a European version of the vehicle. It became the very first-ever small crossover SUV from Buick, though the fourth SUV in the Buick line after the Rendezvous, Rainier, and Enclave.
Bite-Sized Technology – The Buick Encore
The 2019 Buick Encore comes complete with a 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, though drivers have the choice between 138 horsepower and 153 horsepower models. This gives the Encore a 0-60 time of 7.8 seconds. The Encore suspension soaks up bumpier roads really nicely.
On the inside, you get a premium look with a glossy black trim, soft-touch armrests, and a gorgeous, flush-mounted 8.0” infotainment touchscreen that comes complete with all of the standard Buick IntelliLink goodies. A six-speaker audio system comes standard with the car, as well as SiriusXM satellite radio.
A Single Generation of the Buick Encore (2013-Present)
Through 2015, the Buick Encore came in four different trim levels with a 1.4L inline four-cylinder engine. It was rated at 138 horsepower with a six-speed automatic transmission. In 2016, Buick added a new Sport Touring model to the lineup. This model came with 18” aluminum-alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, fog lamps, and more powerful inline-four engine with 150 horsepower.
By 2017, the Encore received a complete facelift with revised bumpers and headlights, as well as an updated gauge cluster with an infotainment screen.

The Buick Encore – Sized To Fit
There are many drivers in the world who seek luxury in a far more subtle way. To answer our original question, we don’t believe that the Encore matches up with its BMW and Lexus competitors, although this little SUV provides the perfect middle ground for those who want a slice of luxury without the whole pie. With the wheel of an Encore between your hands, you’ll have the perfect mid-luxury vehicle to cruise through the urban landscape.
