Anything minivans can do the Suburban can do better!

The Chevrolet Suburban is one of the longest-running names in Chevrolet history, dating all the way back to 1935. To this day, it is the SUV of choice for large families everywhere.

A Condensed History of the Chevrolet Suburban

Chevrolet began production on the Suburban back in 1935. The Suburban name was made to indicate a station wagon type body that was windowed and used a commercial frame.

Premium Technology of the Chevrolet Suburban

The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban gives drivers a choice between two different engines, including a 5.3L V-8 with 355 horsepower or a 6.2L V-6 with 420 horsepower. It can tow up to 8,300 pounds when properly equipped.

The SUV is equipped with an 8.0” touchscreen and a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, with some upgradable features that include a Bose system, entertainment systems for the rear seats, and wireless charging.

A Timeline of the Chevrolet Suburban

  • First Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1935-1940)

The first-generation Suburban was built on a station wagon body with a ½ ton truck frame. It was built for the National Guard and Civilian Conservation Corps.

  • Second Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1941-1946)

The second-generation Suburban was a military transport vehicle with seating for eight passengers. It used a 216-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine.

  • Third Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1947-1954)

The third-generation Suburban used four-speed automatic transmission and had a split front bench seat.

  • Fourth Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1955-1959)

The fourth-generation Suburban had a flatter hood, flush front genders, and a trapezoid grille. Inline-six and small-block V-8 engines were the two options.

  • Fifth Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1960-1966)

The fifth-generation Suburban used a more conservative hood styling that eliminated the large ports. It was equipped with four-wheel-drive for the first time.

  • Sixth Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1967-1972)

The sixth-generation was available in both two and four-wheel-drive, and small block and big block V-8 engines were offered. It was available in both five-door SUV and three-door station wagon iterations.

  • Seventh Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1973-1991)

The seventh-generation Suburban became a true four-door vehicle. It is distinguished with a rounded-line 1970s body.

  • Eighth Generation Chevrolet Suburban (1992-1999)

The eighth-generation Suburbans were built on a newer platform that included independent front suspension. Annual changes were made every year until the ninth-generation.

  • Ninth Generation Chevrolet Suburban (2000-2006)

The ninth-generation Suburban included new puddle lamps, a new instrument panel, front-wheel disc brakes, and an array of digital components.

  • Tenth Generation Chevrolet Suburban (2007-2014)

The tenth-generation was a bit less boxy with a redesigned interior and improved seating. Bluetooth became available in 2010, as well as GPS navigation.
