Dodge Grand Caravan
0 Comments

When it comes to hauling the family around, Dodge probably isn’t the first car manufacturer to come to mind.

With that said, their Grand Caravan has somehow continued to stick around for the past few decades as one of the more popular minivans. It may not be anything incredibly special, though with an insanely affordable price compared to others in its class, it is a family favorite.

Dodge Grand Caravan Background

When 1977 was coming to an end, Chrysler began developing their own minivans. They wanted to create a vehicle with front-wheel-drive, a low floor that matched smaller cars, and a big interior space to fit the whole family. Though they finally slated the Dodge Caravan for the 1982 year, it wasn’t until 1984 that it hit the market.

A Capable and Flexible Machine – The Technology of the Dodge Grand Caravan

The 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan uses a V-6 engine that puts out 283 horsepower. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a well-weighted steering system, which is just about the only thing that gives the driver a more engaging experience.

The Grand Caravan offers plenty of space on the inside, as well as some standard features, such as a 6.5” infotainment screen, underfloor storage bins, and folded seats. Some of the top safety features on the Grand Caravan include standard seven airbags and traction/stability control.

A Timeline of the Dodge Grand Caravan

  • First Generation Dodge Grand Caravan (1984-1990)

The first-generation Dodge Caravan was based on the Chrysler S platform, which was an extended version of the Chrysler K platform. It wasn’t until 1987 that the wheelbase was extended and the company added the “Grand” to the front of its name.

  • Second Generation Dodge Grand Caravan (1991-1995)

The second-generation Dodge Grand Caravan was the last built on the Chrysler K platform. Some of the top features included Quad Command, anti-lock brakes, and all-wheel-drive.

  • Third Generation Dodge Grand Caravan (1996-2000)

The third-generation Grand Caravan used a seat management system with Easy Out Roller Seats. Dodge also added a conventional door handle to get rid of the pop-and-lift design.

  • Fourth Generation Dodge Grand Caravan (2001-2007)

By 2001, foldable Stow ‘n Go seats were added. The Grand Caravan also received wide headlights, upgraded taillights, and a larger body frame.

  • Fifth Generation Dodge Grand Caravan (2008-Present)

The fifth-generation Grand Caravan received an array of entertainment features, including a DVD multimedia system, as well as a more comfortable seating arrangement.

The Dodge Grand Caravan In the News

In recent and unfortunate news, a high-speed chase in Knoxville led to a fatal accident when a 40-year-old Marshalltown woman drove launched her Dodge Grand Caravan off of the freeway at 90mph.

Celebrity Endorsements of the Dodge Grand Caravan

Celebrities and minivans don’t really go together, which is likely why we haven’t been able to find any celebrity endorsements of the Dodge Grand Caravan.

The Dodge Grand Caravan – Taking Control Of Any Situation

Overall, the Dodge Grand Caravan is nothing past your basic minivan. It comes at a low price, which is why most people love it, though when it comes to creating a special experience, it lacks a lot of the good stuff.
