GMC Acadia

Though GMC has been renowned as a large truck brand for quite some time, they decided to hop outside of their comfort zone when they released the Acadia crossover vehicle.

With a handsome design, a number of modern technical features, and tons of room for the whole family and then some, the GMC Acadia is one of our favorites from the manufacturer. Whether or not it is one of the top crossovers of this era is up for questioning.

A History of the GMC Acadia

The very first GMC Acadia came about in 2007 for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico markets. It was made to replace the seven and eight-passenger vehicles that were present in the Buick and Pontiac networks, including the Pontiac Montana, the GMC Safari, and the GMC Envoy.

Crossover Technology and Performance – The GMC Acadia

The 2019 GMC Acadia utilizes a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that puts out 193 horsepower at the base-level. Drivers also have the option of choosing a 3.6L V-6 engine that puts out 310 horsepower and has a 0-60 time of about 6.1 seconds. While front-wheel-drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard, drivers can also opt for an all-wheel-drive model. The V-6 can tow up to 4,000 pounds.

The Acadia has a beautiful black-and-white gauge cluster on the inside that provides drivers with tons of information about the vehicle in real-time. Some upscale interior features include the aluminum trim and the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Acadia offers a standard touchscreen infotainment system, an array of USB ports, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi so that everyone in the vehicle can stay connected. Some driver-assistance features include automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist.

The Evolution of the GMC Acadia

  • First Generation GMC Acadia (2007-2017)

The first-generation GMC Acadia was the very first GMC unibody vehicle to utilize front-wheel-drive. It sat between the Envoy and Yukon models with the ability to seat eight passengers. The vehicle then replaced the Buick Rainier in 2008.

By 2012, the Acadia received a few upgrades. While it still included the SmartSlide seating system that made it so popular with families, as well as a flat-folding third row, the cargo space was increased. GMC also added new wrap-around rear glass and a brand new rear spoiler.

  • Second Generation GMC Acadia (2017-Present)

The second-generation GMC Acadia was reduced by 700 pounds. The front-end became a bit more chiseled with thin LED headlights and a wider grille. The interior includes a ton of new features, such as front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, and low speed forward automatic braking.

The GMC Acadia In the News

In recent news, a Virginia couple sued General Motors over a transmission issue with their GMC Acadia. Their claim was that even after a number of transmission repairs through the dealership, the problem still persists.

Celebrity Endorsements of the GMC Acadia

Though we have not been able to find any celebrity owners of the GMC Acadia, there are quite a few celebrities who love their GMC vehicles. These celebrities include Paris Hilton with her GMC Yukon Denali and Clint Eastwood with his GMC Typhoon.

The GMC Acadia – Modern But Not Mundane

The GMC Acadia may just be one of the most underrated crossover vehicles that are on the market today. With tons of seating for the whole family, a tech-laden cabin, and a handsome look, it is truly everything that you could possibly want in a modern crossover vehicle. Though it has moved down into the mid-sized category, it is hard not to see it as a larger-than-life power vehicle.
