GMC Yukon
0 Comments

GMC is a brand that has been known to take their Chevrolet models and bring them to an entirely new level with premium features and pricing.

The GMC Yukon is an excellent example of a seriously upgraded Chevrolet, which is perfect four hauling around large families or tons of cargo. When you see this tank cruising down the street, you know exactly what it is.

Looking Back at the GMC Yukon

The GMC Yukon decided to rebadge the full-size Jimmy model back in 1991 when they created the GMC Yukon. The name refers to the Yukon Territory, which is present in Northern Canada.

Tank-Like Technology and Performance of the GMC Yukon

The 2020 GMC Yukon uses a naturally-aspirated 6.2L V-8 engine to get you where you need to go. It is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission for a modern powertrain. Of course, you can also drive around with a 5.3L V-8 engine that puts out 355 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as rear-wheel-drive. The rear-wheel-drive Yukons can tow up to 8500 pounds, while the all-wheel-drive versions are able to tow up to 8200 pounds.

The mid-level SLT trim adds some comfortable bucket seats, leather, and power-folding second and third rows. It comes with an 8.0” touchscreen infotainment system that is easy to use and has large icons. There are plenty of USB ports around the cabin for ultimate connectivity. Drivers can also expect some key driver-assistance features, including lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and more.

The Ever-Evolving GMC Yukon

  • First Generation GMC Yukon (1991-2000)

The first-generation GMC Yukon hit the market in 1991 with the same GMT400 platform as the Suburban. They were available in two and four-door models, each of which could use rear or four-wheel-drive. An upscale Yukon line wasn’t introduced until 1999, though they also had dropped the two-door version by 1997.

  • Second Generation GMC Yukon (2000-2006)

The second-generation Yukon was built on a larger GMT800 platform with a new luxury car trim on the side. The wheels were much bigger, the suspension was fine-tuned, and the interior was modified with two-tone leather. The SUV also received a more modern facelift in 2003.

  • Third Generation GMC Yukon (2007-2014)

The third-generation GMC Yukon was built on GMC’s full-size platform with a fully-boxed frame. It used brand new coil-over-shock front suspension, as well as rack-and-pinion steering. It was made much longer than the previous iteration.

  • Fourth Generation GMC Yukon (2015-Present)

The fourth-generation Yukon featured the most improvement, with brand new V-8 engines, a touchscreen infotainment system, a real-time damping system, and modern driver-assistance features.

Celebrity Endorsements of the GMC Yukon

Though there aren’t many celebrities that can be seen cruising around in GMC models, you might be surprised to find out that one of the most wealth-bearing celebrities out there, Paris Hilton, just so happens to own a GMC Yukon Denali. Jessica Alba has even been spotted in her Yukon!

The GMC Yukon In the News

In recent news, General Motors has just had to recall around 3.8 million pickups and SUVs due to brake issues. GMC Yukon models from 2015-2018 are part of this recall.

The GMC Yukon – A Luxurious Tank

Next to the ever-popular Cadillac Escalade, the GMC Yukon and Yukon Denali models are some of the most luxurious SUVs on the market. From hauling around the whole family to transporting precious cargo, no other SUV does it quite like the Yukon does. We’d be hard-pressed to find a more competent SUV that is on the market today.
