With the comfort and spaciousness of an SUV and the nimble and sleek feel of a sedan, the BMW X1 might just be one of the top compact SUVs on the market today.

The BMW X1 is the perfect dual-purpose vehicle for drivers who are looking for something a bit more active while keeping luxury in mind. Though it has a short history in the U.S., it has made quite an impact compared to others in its class.

A Brief History of the BMW X1

The BMW X1 first hit the European market back in 2010, though it wasn’t until 2013 that the vehicle finally made its way to the states. The BMW X1 was the company’s response to needing a premium crossover vehicle that was affordable.

Standard-Setting Technology on the BMW X1

The 2019 BMW X1 comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that puts out a proper 228 horsepower. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and gives drivers a 0-60 time of about 6.3 seconds. While front-wheel-drive is the standard setup for the X1, all-wheel-drive is available too.

On the interior, you get a very driver-focused layout with an elegant digital gauge cluster and a standard infotainment system that comes with a 6.5” screen and BMW’s iDrive technology. Some of the other top features of the car include the seven-speaker audio system, a large cargo capacity, standard lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlamps.

Two Generations of the BMW X1

  • First Generation BMW X1 (2009-2015)

The first-generation BMW X1 was first based on the E91 3-Series Touring platform before undergoing a facelift with the E84. During this generation, the X1 was upgraded with BMW Efficient Dynamics technology.

  • Second Generation BMW X1 (2009-2015)

The second-generation BMW X1 was upgraded with BMW’s front-wheel-drive UKL2 platform. It comes with a few different engine choices, including the turbocharged three-cylinder and turbocharged four-cylinder types. Overall, the car was redesigned to give off a more aggressive aesthetic.

The BMW X1 In the News

Lookout 2023, as recent BMW news is telling us that an “i” iteration of the BMW X1 is on the table. If the rumors are true, this will be the company’s second fully electric crossover to hit the market. This introduction could pave the way for electric SUVs in the future.

Celebrity Endorsements of the BMW X1

Unfortunately, we have been unable to find any celebrity BMW X1 owners out there. With that being said, there are a few celebrity owners of the BMW X3, which is the manufacturer’s other compact crossover vehicle. Those celebrities include Coleen Rooney and Olivia Germano.

Best BMW X1 Groups

While there are no major groups out there that are specific to the BMW X1, Bimmer Owners Club is a great umbrella group out there for owners and enthusiasts of the BMW X1 and beyond.

The BMW X1 – Dynamic In Design

With excellent handling, a luxurious interior, and the prideful stamp of the BMW logo, the X1 is a true, stand-out SUV. We’d be hard-pressed to try and find a more versatile SUV on the market today.
