The Buick Enclave takes the meaning of “crossover” to an entirely different level.

The crossover SUV effectively replaced the utility-based Rainier, the Terraza minivan, and the Rendezvous crossover, all in one fell swoop. Though it has never been the sleekest or most stylish crossover on the market, it is an absolute champ when it comes to taking cargo from point A to point B.

A Look Back At the Buick Enclave

The Buick Enclave was launched by the manufacturer back in 2008 as a mid-size crossover SUV. It shared the same platform as the Chevrolet Traverse and was first debuted at the North American International Auto Show before hitting production lines a few years later. Many Buick employees will tell you that the crossover was based on the Buick Centieme concept car that was shown at the Detroit Auto Show in 2003.

Technology and Innovations of a Family SUV – The Buick Enclave

The 2019 Buick Enclave comes complete with a 3.6L V-6 engine that puts out 310 horsepower. That engine is paired with a front or all-wheel-drive system, as well as a nine-speed automatic transmission. While it isn’t very fast, it does have a towing capacity of 5,000lbs.

As for the interior, you get the Enclave 8.0” IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system that sits smack dab between two large air vents. The graphics are crisp and an array of features, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and onboard Wi-Fi, are available. Some of the top safety features include automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist, each of which come with the upgraded model.

Two Generations of the Buick Enclave

  • First Generation Buick Enclave (2008-2017)

The first-generation Enclave had seating for seven passengers and was made to replace the Terraza minivan. During the first year of production, it put out 275 horsepower with the 3.6L V-6 engine. By 2013, it received a facelift with a new waterfall grille and Xenon headlights, as well as the new infotainment display.

  • Second Generation Buick Enclave (2018-Present)

The second-generation debuted after a decade with a new nine-speed automatic transmission and 310 horsepower. The first switchable all-wheel-drive system was also added on.

The Buick Enclave – A Crossover In More Ways Than One
