When the market asked for small, Cadillac answered with the ATS.
The Cadillac ATS was originally a solution for the luxury car marketplace that began demanding smaller, entry-level vehicles. Throughout the few years of production, it helped take Cadillac to new heights while they challenged the luxury car market throughout Japan and Europe.
Developing the Cadillac ATS
The Cadillac ATS debuted to the American market back in 2012 before selling during the 2013 year. The smallest car on the Cadillac line up to that point was the CTS. GM decided to develop the ATS in response to other manufacturers with small cars, such as the Lexus IS and BMW 3-Series.
Little Luxury – Technology and Performance of the Cadillac ATS
The 2019 Cadillac ATS was made to combine luxury style and top-notch performance into a tiny package. It is available in both coupe and sedan models, each of which has a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. There is a V-6 engine that provides up to 335 horsepower as well.
On the inside is a luxurious cabin with an 8.0” touchscreen infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 4G LTE Wi-Fi also comes standard on all models. The interior is lined with Semi-Aniline leather that is spread about the 14-way adjustable seating. The ATS model also comes with a variety of standard safety features, including adaptive cruise control, rain sense wipers, and automatic seat belt-tightening.
A Timeline of the Cadillac ATS
The Cadillac ATS is only in its first generation. The first major change came about in 2015 when the car manufacturer decided to develop a new lightweight platform to handle both the rear and all-wheel-drive configurations. A two-bar grille and redesigned Cadillac emblem were added.
In 2016, the ATS got a brand new eight-speed automatic transmission that replaced the six-speed. Automatic start-stop technology was also added to the ATS models.
The Cadillac ATS In the News
In recent and unfortunate Cadillac news, the ATS will not be coming back for another production year in 2020. As of July 2019, only 35 new Cadillac ATS units were left on car lots.
Celebrity Endorsements of the Cadillac ATS
As Cadillac is a luxury car brand, it is not a surprise to see celebrities rolling around in them. Reese Witherspoon has been spotted driving around in her 2013 Cadillac ATS

The Cadillac ATS – A Blend of Power, Control, and Luxury
Though the Cadillac ATS won’t be coming back around for another year, we have to commend it for standing up to the Japanese and European luxury market for the few years that it was around. It definitely made a large impression, helping to bring Cadillac into the smaller car market that was growing in popularity for so many years.
We now say farewell to the distinctive and performance-driven ATS in hopes that Cadillac can continue to hold its own in years to come.
