No other car lives and breathes the idea of stardom quite like the Cadillac Escalade.

This classic SUV has become somewhat of an icon in terms of luxury vehicles over the past twenty years. With a boatload of upscale features and an aesthetic that says “I am holding something or someone important”, there is truly no other vehicle like it on the market.

The Beginnings of Luxury – The Cadillac Escalade

The Cadillac Escalade came about in 1999 to help Cadillac compete with other large SUVs on the market, including the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class, the Lincoln Navigator, and the Lexus LX. The name “Escalade” came from the meaning of the war, which refers to a warfare tactic that involves sieging towers with ladders.

Technology Cadillac Escalade

The 2020 Cadillac Escalade sports a mighty V-8 engine with 420 horsepower. It is powered by a ten-speed automatic transmission that helps the car tow up to 8300lbs. While rear-wheel-drive is standard on the Escalade, all-wheel-drive is optional.

The inside is where the magic happens. The top-of-the-line model provides you with massage chair functionality and a split-folding bench seat, as well as an optional refrigerated bin. Each Escalade comes complete with an 8.0” touchscreen infotainment system that utilizes Cadillac’s CUE software. The Escalade also comes with a variety of safety features such as forward-collision warning and blind-spot monitoring.

The Cadillac Escalade Throughout the Years

  • First Generation Cadillac Escalade (1999-2000)

The first-generation Cadillac Escalade only supported five passengers and the design was very similar to the GMC Yukon Denali.

  • Second Generation Cadillac Escalade (2002-2006)

The second-generation Cadillac Escalade dropped the 5.3L engine altogether and added a 6.0L Vortec V-8 in rear and all-wheel-drive versions. The SUV could now fit eight people.

  • Third Generation Cadillac Escalade (2007-2014)

The third-generation Escalade featured an even bigger 6.2L V-8 unit with 402 horsepower. The overall design became far less aerodynamic.

  • Fourth Generation Cadillac Escalade (2015-Present)

The fourth-generation Escalade featured the new infotainment system and a 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 engine.
