If there are two things that car buyers want more than anything these days, it is power and affordability.
The Ford EcoSport is one of the most on-the-nose vehicles that attempts to provide both of those things. As a crossover with a sporty look and an economical design, it delivers a variety of high-quality features for a fraction of what you would pay for other crossovers.
The Birth of the Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport was originally manufactured in Brazil in 2003, though would eventually move to different countries throughout the later 2000s, and eventually North America in 2018. At one point, it was one of the best-selling Ford models in all of Brazil.
Outsmarting the Competition – The Technology of the Ford EcoSport
The 2019 Ford EcoSport utilizes a turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 123 horsepower, though drivers also have the option of choosing a four-cylinder engine that runs on 166 horsepower. Each of these engines is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that allows you to tow up to 2000lbs, which is pretty surprising when looking at its competition’s specs.
The interior comes with Ford’s user-friendly Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system, and uses both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Purchase a higher trim level, and you’ll get access to a 110-volt outlet in the back row and a 4G LTE mobile hotspot.
Two Generations of the Ford EcoSport
- First Generation Ford EcoSport (2004-2012)
The first-generation EcoSport was essentially a revamped version of the European Ford Fusion. It only came available in front-wheel-drive and had a four-speed automatic transmission.
- Second Generation Ford EcoSport (2013-Present)
By 2013, the grille was re-sized and the design was made a bit more modern. The engine choices changed to a 1.0L EcoBoost engine, as well as a 1.5L diesel engine. By 2017, there were even more upgrades, including larger headlights, new bumpers, a new grille, new exterior colors, and new wheels. Driver-assistance technology was also upgraded.
The Ford EcoSport In the News
In recent news, the Ford EcoSport BS-VI was just spotted in testing, far ahead of its predicted launch in India. This compact SUV will be BS-VI compliant for the Indian market.
Celebrity Endorsements of the Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport is definitely an economy-style vehicle without much to offer in terms of charm or excitement. This is likely the reason that we have been unable to find any celebrity owners of the Ford EcoSport.
Best Ford EcoSport Groups
Surprisingly enough, one of the largest groups of Ford EcoSport owners and enthusiasts is one Facebook. The Ford EcoSport Owners Club has almost 10,000 EcoSport owners from all over the world.
The Ford EcoSport – Bringing Economy and Sport Together
Don’t let the small size fool you. The Ford EcoSport is a surprisingly competitive vehicle. Compared to many of its larger competitors on the market, it is somehow able to hold its own. It is an easy car to drive and has some solid crossover qualities that make it a likable economy vehicle. Yes, it may not be anything special, though for those who desire simplicity and reliability, it’s a perfect choice.
