It’s a van! It’s a bus! No, it’s the Ford Expedition!

With a massive construction, there is no question that the Ford Expedition is built for large families. In a world of crossovers and compact vehicles, it is one of the few, true, large SUVs left on the market.

A Brief History of the Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition first hit the market back in 1997 as the successor to the Ford Bronco, which was Ford’s popular two-door SUV at the time. It was the very first full-size, four-door SUV that was sold by Ford, though was derived from the F-150 platform.

Big and Bold Performance of the Ford Expedition

The 2019 Ford Expedition has a beautiful twin-turbocharged 3.5L V-6 engine that is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission. It can be utilized with either rear or all-wheel-drive. Of course, you can choose between the higher trims as well, where you can access to a V-6 engine with 375 horsepower or a V-6 engine with 400 horsepower. The Expedition now has a towing capacity of up to 9300 pounds.

On the interior, you get a huge cargo space with massive air vents throughout the cabin, as well as 15 cupholders. It comes with an 8.0” touchscreen infotainment system that utilizes Ford’ Sync 3 software, which pairs with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE hotspot. You can pay even more for a rear-seat entertainment system as well. Some of the top safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

Through the Generations of the Ford Expedition

  • First Generation Ford Expedition (1997-2002)

The first-generation Ford Expedition was just between the Ford Explorer and Ford Excursion. It offered a range of V-8 engines with a luxury interior.

  • Second Generation Ford Expedition (2003-2006)

The second-generation Ford Expedition received an increased towing capacity to tow 8,300 pounds. The rear suspension was changed to independent suspension for a smoother ride and power folding was introduced to the last row. This opens up significant room for what can be stored in the back.

  • Third Generation Ford Expedition (2007-2017)

The third-generation Ford Expedition utilized an entirely different platform. Ford also added a V-8 Hybrid model in the mix. This is an incredibly forward thinking step, as it offers a greener and more environmentally friendly vehicle option. In the long run, hybrid models can also save a great deal of gas money.

  • Fourth Generation Ford Expedition (2018-Present)

Ford created a new front end for the fourth-generation Ford Expedition, including a restyled grille and redesigned headlamps. The 8.0” touchscreen infotainment system was added on as well.

The Ford Expedition In the News

In recent Ford news, a number of Ford vehicles have been recently recalled. The 2019-2020 Ford Expedition is part of that recall, as it has “lack of restraint in the event of a crash”.

Celebrity Endorsements of the Ford Expedition

It’s always nice to see celebrities driving their families around in large SUVs we were driven around in as kids. Chris O’Donnell drives his family around in a black Ford Expedition.
