While the Etios sedan has been gracing the streets of India for quite some time, the addition of the Platinum series was an excellent way for Toyota to position the car into a premium market. While we don’t typically think of Toyota as a “premium” car option, the Platinum has surprised us quite a bit.

Started from the Bottom, Now We’re Here – A History of the Toyota Platinum Etios

For almost a decade, the Toyota Etios had been pegged as your typical, family-style sedan for the Indian market. It came with proper storage, total reliability, and just enough features to make people happy who couldn’t afford luxury vehicles. Of course, the market caught up, forcing Toyota to rethink their game.

This is where they came up with the Platinum Etios in 2018, which is essentially a regular Etios with higher-quality materials and a more luxurious style.

Limited Edition Technology – the Toyota Platinum Etios

The Toyota Platinum edition comes in both petrol and diesel engine types with premium touches, including dual-tone upholstery, an infotainment system, and a new paint scheme that includes Phantom Brown. The petrol variant uses a 1.5L four-cylinder engine with 89 bhp, while the diesel variant uses a 1.4L four-cylinder engine at 67 bhp.

The major update is the 6.8” touchscreen infotainment system that allows you to connect through Bluetooth and use voice control.

A Brief Timeline of the Toyota Platinum Etios (2018-Present)

The timeline of the Toyota Platinum Etios begins with the Toyota Etios, which was released in 2010, though the car itself was not put in production until 2018. Some of the major upgrades that separated the Platinum Etios from the standard Etios were the infotainment system, the dual-tone interiors, the rear parking sensors, the gear knob chrome cap, and of course, the exclusive badge that can be found on the boot lid.

Woodgrain finish can now be found on the instrument panel as well.
